Memoir writing services I provide

Again, as the Memoir Ghostwriter, I help qualified individuals write their memoirs.

My clients provide the life stories, lessons, and insights, and I do the heavy lifting to produce a compelling, readable book that strives to make a difference in the lives of its readers.

That's it. I am not a publisher, though I can point you in the right direction when that time comes, and I am not a PR person or promoter, though I know good people who do all that, too.

I help you write your story, and we have fun doing it.

As the Memoir Ghostwriter, I help qualified individuals share their story via a well-written memoir.

I have helped many authors pass on their knowledge, wisdom, and spirit to those they love, so let me do the same for you when you hire me to help you pen the most important book you may ever write, or read: yours.

Again, I love writing memoirs. There are more interesting that most any other book I have helped people write. And I take that love and enjoyment and put it into the memoirs that I work on.

But most of all, I listen. I listen to how you speak and the words you use, and I make sure that what we write together sounds like you. After all, it is your experiences, your ideas, and your thoughts that I'm putting down on paper.

And last, but not least, we have fun doing it.

Why choose me to help you write your memoir?

My simple memoir writing process

I have a simple, step-by-step process that I follow with all my clients. It works because it's simple, and it's simple because that's what works.

Please note: In the steps below, I've greatly simplified what I do when I help my clients write their memoirs, but I've share the bulk of my simple process.

Ever start a bit project without a plan, or take a long, complicated trip without an itinerary?

I wouldn't recommend it.

Great projects require planning, and that's what an outline is.

Before we write one word of your memoir, you and I will meet (usually over the phone, but it could be Zoom or in person if we're close by each other) and discuss your life and what you want to write about.

We'll map out your memoir so that we know where we will be going and how we're going to get there.

Don't worry, that outline will likely change and evolve a little as we move forward, but it will save us time and headache by providing a direction we can follow.

Step one: we outline

While you're out living your life, I will be working hard in my office, crafting what we discussed into chapter drafts.

We'll usually take each chapter in your memoir through two drafts.

You'll get to review what I've put on paper, and you'll make changes, corrections, and suggestions. After all, it's your book, so you are also taking part in writing it. You're just being spared much of the heavy lifting.

Step two: we talk

With a working outline in hand, we will meet weekly (more often if the situation calls for it) and I will interview you and we will fill in the topics on your outline.

I'll take notes and even record a version of your words for a back up, but mostly our conversations will provide the basis for your book.

Step three: we revise

Step four: we finish

After we've produced a draft of your book, I'll take one last editing pass, both to proofread your book and to make any small tweaks that will help your memoir really shine.

And then I'll help you hand it off to your publisher, whether that publisher is a traditional publisher, a hybrid publisher, or a self-publishing company. I'll help make sure this final hand-off is smooth, and I will continue to be someone you can ask questions to or get help from should something go awry. I don't abandon my clients even after we're finished writing.

Client Feedback

Hear from my satisfied clients about their experiences.

“I’ve been asked a number of times, ‘Why did you choose Jonathan Williams for my book, and are you pleased with his work now that you’ve written it?’ My answer?

Jonathan was the seventh ghostwriter that I interviewed. The reasons I chose him over the previous six are these:

His excellent listening skills. During the interview, he was able to speak back some of the nuances of the message I desired to deliver. It signaled to me that he was able to read between the lines of the feeling of the message, and not just the facts as a reporter would do on news station.

His desire to make sure that it was my voice, my message, my tone that was delivered in the final product.

His plan before we write the first word that included understanding who are audience is / is not, what tone, what writing style would be best for that audience, and the need to build a road map of the overall book.

His heart and transparency. Considering that my book is a brutally honest reflection on life, it was important to me to have someone who was honestly bought into full transparency.

His pricing was not the cheapest (or the most expensive either), but I was able to pay as we went along, and that made me feel good that I was not front-loading payment for work yet undone.

In the end, I am extremely happy. The process was great, and the final outcome is everything I could have hoped for.”
